The three-fold mission of the Department of Entomology is to 1) conduct research to better understand insects and their impact on humanity, 2) provide distinguished education in all aspects of insect biology, and 3) disseminate information about insects to improve the quality of life of the people of Arizona and the world.
The Department provides instruction to students planning careers in entomology and related fields. Graduates of the Department find fulfilling work as researchers, educators, consultants, and entrepreneurs in academia, government, and private industry.
The Department offers programs leading to the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Courses of study emphasize independent thought and scholarly endeavor in both basic and applied areas of insect biology. Departmental programs include genetics, physiology, behavior, ecology, evolution, systematics, social insect biology, medical entomology, integrated pest management, and resistance management.
