Target Population: U of A students who want un-appointed access to Mental Health professionals.
Participation Rate: 1,726 students in calendar year 2005
A unique program of triaging un-appointed students/patients with mental health concerns who present to the CAPS Unit by a Masters-level trained counselor to rapidly determine the best course of intervention.
- Provide an initial Mental Health professional assessment for all un-appointed patients as they present to the CAPS Unit to determine if they need immediate intervention, are best managed within CAPS or need to be referred out to a community provider (Mental Health Triage).
Handled 1,726 students/patients last year presenting for un-appointed access to Mental Health professionals – no student/patient is turned away.
Changes Made on Basis of Findings
During the 2005/2006 year, 1,726 un-appointed presenting students were triaged by a licensed Masters level counselor to determine urgency of counseling need and disposition of where best to provide mental health services.
