MA in Theatre Studies

Overview: 

The Master of Arts in Theatre Studies prepared students for advanced work in theatre history, dramatic criticism/theory and community outreach. Students combined practical experience through production opportunities in dramaturgy and education with theoretical and empirical research in the field. The degree was research-oriented, and the curriculum reflected that academic direction. The MA in Theatre Studies graduated its final class in Spring 2012.  It is no longer offered.

Expected Learning Outcomes: 
  1. Graduates with an MA  in Theatre Studies  have attained and demonstrated advanced and broad knowledge of:  theatre history, literary and performance theories; methods for conducting research, and production and community programs in dramaturgy and/or education.
  1. Graduates with an MA in Theatre Studies must demonstrate strong ability to express artistic thought and concepts relative to their area of emphasis through the following: research relatin g to a dramaturgy project, ability to analyze dramatic literature, ability to present artistic ideas to a group of collaborators, and the ability to express ideas through written documents, web based materials, and public presentations.

  1. Graduates with an MA in Theatre Studies must demonstrate success in collaborative skills within their area of specialty, organizing appropriate resources to facilitate the process, and ability to successfully contribute to the theatrical process.

  1. Graduates with an MA in Theatre Studies must demonstrate the ability to conduct and disseminate research through the successful completion of a master’s thesis.
