Qualitative review of student work in the department's capstone course reveal frequent deficiencies in reading comprehension, research, writing, and the interpretation of evidence.
Changes Made on Basis of Findings
The department is devising a "gateway" methodologies course to be piloted in the fall of 2005. It is designed to improve students' skills in reading comprehension, research, writing, and the interpretation of evidence so as to improve their performance in all history courses, including HIST 396a in particular.
