The College of Education houses four departments: Disability and Psychoeducational Studies, Educational Policy Studies and Practice, Educational Psychology and Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies. We offer 10 doctoral programs, 13 masters programs and five undergraduate programs.

The largest department, Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies (TLS) prepares elementary, bilingual and early childhood teachers at the undergraduate and post-baccalaureate levels and secondary teachers at the master’s level. The department also offers an undergraduate program entitled, Literacy, Learning and Leadership, which prepares graduates to be educators in non-school settings. At the graduate level, TLS offers masters and doctoral programs in two areas, Language, Reading and Culture and Teaching and Teacher Education. TLS also offers specialized graduate programs, one leading to a reading endorsement and one that enables mathematics and science teachers to work in Arizona industries while they develop real world curricula for the middle and high school students.

At the undergraduate level the second largest department, Disability and Psychoeducational Studies (DPS), prepares teachers of students with mild to moderate disabilities, rehabilitation specialists, and specialists who work with people who are hearing impaired. At the masters level, DPS prepares teachers to work with mild to moderate disabilities and severe and multiple disabilities, as well as teachers of blind and visually impaired students and deaf and hard of hearing students. DPS also has masters programs in Counseling and Mental Health (with specializations in either rehabilitation and school counseling) and special education. They offer doctoral programs in school psychology, rehabilitation counseling, and special education. The program in rehabilitation is routinely ranked in the top five of US programs.

The Educational Policy Studies and Practice Department (EPSP) comprises two, graduate level programs: educational leadership and higher education. The program in educational leadership prepares students to become principals and superintendents, as well as policy specialists and researchers; the Center for the Study of Higher Education prepares graduates to work in all aspects of higher education. The Center is routinely ranked among the top 15 in the country.

The Department of Educational Psychology (EDP) prepares graduate students at both the masters and doctoral levels to conduct research and teach in the fields of motivation, learning and the learning sciences.

The college employs 60 tenure line faculty members, 28 practice track faculty members, and 48 staff members. All faculty are actively engaged in teaching and all tenure line faculty are engaged in research and scholarship.
